Akrotiri, Santorini, Greece 2016 [1]

We took a bus to the Akrotiri excavations,  a Minoan Bronze Age settlement in Santorini, Greece. The settlement was destroyed during a volcanic eruption in 1627 BC, and some remains of buildings and many objects were buried in volcanic ash, which preserved them. Furniture, pottery, frescoes (type of mural paintings),  advanced drainage systems and even three-story buildings have been discovered at the site. We then went for a short walk down to a beach and the surrounding area, where the landscape was made up of red and black volcanic rocks.
